Vionnet Unveils Debut Demi-Couture Collection

VIONNET unveiled its first demi-couture collection last night to commemorate the brand’s 100thanniversary. Inspired by the legacy of house founder Madeleine Vionnet, the capsule range consisted of 20 one-of-a-kind gowns.

Described as “a newfound freedom in luxury eveningwear” the collection revisited signature Vionnet styles, reinterpreted for a modern woman – to take the brand through into its second century. The house’s traditional use of feminine draping, bias constructions, ribbons and bows were mixed with laser-cut detailing, embroidery and tromp l’oeil motifs – plus “flexible separates that can be mixed and matched” together to form dresses.

“Each work is an individual work of art,” read a press release from the brand, allowing clothes to “come alive on the body”.

The range was showcased at an exclusive show and dinner in Paris last night, with guests including Natalia VodianovaKarlie Kloss and Anja Rubik. The brand also premiered a fashion film (see below, left) during the evening to celebrate its milestone birthday. Directed by Alessandro Possati, the film is a tribute to Madeleine Vionnet and dancer Isadora Duncan – the designer’s muse and contemporary in Twenties Paris.

The demi-couture collection is priced between ready-to-wear and haute couture, and the made-to-measure pieces will be available to buy in Vionnet’s flagship Milan store – as well as in one exclusive retailer per market.
